A day on Alpes D' Huez

  • This year i decided to take my camera and go and photograph part of the 100th Tour de France. I chose the double climb of Alpe D’Huez as the location and the cycling fans as the subject. <br />
The idea was to document and capture the atmosphere from the thousands of cycling fans.

  • One Dutch fan described the mountain as the Netherlands' equivalent of the Eiffel Tower, and Dutch fans clad all in orange had been partying for days before the peloton arrived.

  • Tour de France race director Jean-Francois Pescheux admitted that he hopes never to lose the degree of intimacy between spectators and the riders that makes L'Alpe d'Huez so special.<br />
"We must not be forced to erect barriers all the way up the mountain because then it would no longer be L'Alpe d'Huez."
